Duo Arrested for Intent to Deliver Illegal Prescription Pills

According to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober, the Sheriff's Department received information that a vehicle carrying a large amount of prescription medicine had left Pine Bluff and was traveling to the Monticello area. Authorities set up surveillance at the intersection of Highways 35 North and 63 as well as Highway 425 North. The vehicle was observed on Highway 35 North traveling towards Monticello where it continued until it stopped at the EZ-Mart convenience store located on Highway 425 South. The occupants got out of the vehicle and were then approached by authorities. Deputies observed two open containers of alcohol located in the console of the vehicle. When asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, the driver, Kenneth W. Reed, age 33 of Rison, stated that there was a loaded handgun under the driver's seat. Authorities recovered a loaded 40-caliber handgun. A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of eight pill bottles containing 245 doses of Hydrocodone pills, 14.5 Oxycodone pills, and 43 Xanax pills.

Reed and his passenger, Michael Tyrone Rogers, age 29 of Pine Bluff, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms. District Ken Harper issued a $20,000 bond on Reed and a $5,000 bond on Rogers. At the time of this press release both subjects remain in the Drew County Detention Facility. According to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober, The total street value of the pills was approximately $1,800.
