Traffic Stop Yields Meth Arrest

10/14/2009

While on patrol on the evening of October 13, Drew County Sheriff Department Deputies David Wesson and Jeremy Chapman observed a vehicle traveling north on Midway Route. Deputies observed the brake light out on the passenger side of the vehicle. As the deputies approached the vehicle they observed a rifle in the front seat. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle. Deputies searched the vehicle and found approximately two grams of a white substance believed to be that of methamphetamine and a glass pipe which is typically used to smoke meth.

Thomas Dale Sass, the driver, age 43 of Monticello, was arrested and transported to the Drew County Detention Facility and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, simultaneously possession of drugs and firearms, and illegal acts. Also, approximately $931 was seized as well as the vehicle that Sass was operating and the rifle.

Bond has been set at $1,500 by District Judge Ken Harper.
