Undercover Deputies Arrest Two Drug Dealers

08/06/2009

On August 1, Drew County Sheriff's Department set up an undercover drug buy operation. The Sheriff's Department received information that two men from the Dermott area had approached an individual and wanted to sell him cocaine. With this information the drug buy was set up. The suspects wanted to meet in the Collins area. Undercover deputies stationed themselves in the Collins area.

When the two suspects arrived, later identified as Zelma Louis Johnson, age 35, and Elmer Boatner, age 19, Johnson approached the undercover deputy and laid a small bag that appeared to be powdered cocaine on the tailgate of a truck. At this point the deputy placed Johnson under arrest. Boatner ran through the community of Collins to where he eventually jumped a fence and ran into an open field. He was apprehended shortly afterwards.

Deputies also seized another small bag that appeared to be powdered cocaine from the front pocket of Johnson. Both were transported to the Drew County Detention Facility. Both Johnson and Boatner are being charged with delivery of a controlled substance within proximity of certain facilities, this being the church. This charged carries a 10 year enhancement.
