Drew County Deputy Shot by Fleeing Gunman

Patrol Deputy Jeremy Chapman was shot twice during a traffic stop on March 27th.  The incident happened at Brooks’ Quick Stop on Wednesday around 10:25 p.m.

Nicholas Bray, 34, of Cleveland County, left the scene after the shooting of Chapman, which lead to a five hour manhunt for the suspect. Drew County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Bradley, Chicot & Desha County Sheriff’s Departments, Monticello Police Department, Drug Task Force and the Arkansas Department of Correction tracking dogs.  The subject was later found by the tracking unit, deceased in a deer stand near his residence from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputy Chapman was first transported by ambulance to Drew Memorial Hospital then later transferred to Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Deputy Chapman is in stable condition at this time.
