01/04/2013

On December 26, 2012, at approximately 11:15 PM, a Drew County deputy on was on patrol in the area of Hwy. 425 S. and State School Rd. While in the area, the deputy observed a dirt bike traveling north on Hwy 425 and turning onto State School Rd. without any head lights or tail lights. The bike was occupied by one adult male, Carlton Sanders of Monticello and one juvenile male.  The deputy activated his lights and siren in an attempt to stop the dirt bike. Sanders came to a stop when he reached the intersection of Midway Route and State School Road.  As the deputy was exiting his vehicle, Sanders turned the bike around and came towards the deputy.  The deputy ordered Sanders to stop; at which time Sanders proceeded to push the juvenile off the back of the bike and sped off.

A warrant was issued for Sanders on the charges of felony fleeing and endangering the welfare of a minor. Sanders was arrested on these charges as well as a warrant from the city of Monticello. The juvenile was unharmed and placed with his mother shortly after.

Sanders bonded out on both warrants on January 1, 2013.
