12/05/2012

Update: On Monday, December 3, 2012, Bobby Theus entered a plea of guilty, in the Drew County Circuit Court.  Theus pled guilty to second degree sexual assault and kidnapping.  Theus received a twenty year sentence to be served at the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

On Tuesday, February 28th, the Drew County Sheriff’s Department received a call from dispatch stating that a citizen was advising them that while driving down South 7th Street in Wilmar a black female dressed only in undergarments ran out of the woods and stopped the caller’s vehicle. The caller advised that she allowed the female inside the vehicle and the caller observed a rope around the female’s wrist. The victim stated that she had been raped. The caller took the victim to her residence where she waited for Drew County Sheriff investigators to arrive.

Upon arrival, investigators spoke to the victim and gathered information that took the deputies to a residence located on South 8th Street. In route to the residence on South 8th Street, authorities observed a small white vehicle believed to be that of the suspect leaving the residence. The suspect was stopped moments later and taken in for questioning.

During interviews with the victim, it is believed that the suspect, now identified as Bobby Theus, Jr., age 36 of Wilmar, had met the victim in Pine Bluff on Saturday, February 25th. Theus is believed to have picked her up and drove her to Wilmar with the understanding that he would be driving her that same evening back to Pine Bluff. However, Theus would not allow her to leave the residence on South 8th Street for two days.

On Monday, February 27th, during the evening hours, Theus is reported to have taken the victim to an abandoned trailer near Wilmar where he reportedly tied her up and raped her. After raping her, Theus allegedly left her tied up and tied to a couch in order to prevent her from leaving the trailer. During this time Theus did go to a store in Monticello where he purchased numerous food items along with twine and duck tape.  Theus then returned to the trailer and took her back to the residence on South 8th Street. Theus is believed to have threatened her and would not allow her to leave the residence. During the morning hours, the victim stated that Theus again tied her up and raped her. Moments later, Theus went into another room in the residence and closed the door. The victim stated that at this time she was able to get her hands loose from the twine and cut the rope from her legs. The victim then proceeded to run out of the residence down South 7th Street where she met the caller.

Theus was taken to the Drew County Detention Facility where he was charged with kidnapping, rape, and terroristic threatening. A first appearance hearing was held on Thursday, March 1st before District Judge Ken Harper who set Theus’s bond $100,000. He still remains in custody.
