Pill Take Back Day Nets 35 Pounds of Pills

10/01/2012

For the fourth year, local law enforcement officers spent their Saturday collecting old and unwanted prescription drugs from the community during the annual Pill Take Back Day. The Drew County Sheriff’s Department and Monticello Police Department collected 35 pounds of pills this year, doubling the amount from the last two years.

The National Pill Take Back Program was started approximately three years ago as a safe and environmentally friendly way to get rid of old and/or unwanted drugs, making the home safe for children and reducing the chance of illicit prescription drugs on the street.
