Wild Fire Destroys Almost 1500 Acres in Drew County

According to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober, at approximately 11 AM on Tuesday, August 14th, 911 dispatchers received a report of a woods fire located near the southern end of Chapman Trail and Wilmar Tram Road in the Lacey area of Drew County. Numerous local fire departments and the Arkansas Forestry Commission responded to the scene with two airplane water tankers, thirteen dozers, and numerous personnel. The fire prompted a temporary evacuation of approximately 11 homes in an area known as Jones Loop in the Possum Valley community. Residents were relocated to the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church but were allowed to return home after 11:30 PM as the fire was contained. The fire destroyed an estimated 1500 acres with no homes or structures being damaged. At this time the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Sheriff Gober wants to thank all of the first responders who assisted with this fire including the Arkansas Forestry Commission, and volunteer fire departments from Clear Creek, Dermott, Collins/Cominto, Lacey/Ladelle, Possum Valley, Fountain Hill, Tillar, Selma, Green Hill, and the Monticello Fire Department.
