Man Charged With DWI After Roll-over Accident

05/14/2012

On Sunday, May 13th at approximately 6:30 PM, a Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy was flagged down by a citizen who told the deputy that there had been a rollover accident on Little Garnett Road. When deputies arrived at the scene, they observed a blue Chevy truck in the ditch and the driver had a sever laceration to his head. As deputies were trying to talk with the driver, David Cotham, 49 of Monticello, deputies noted that he was very unstable on his feet and was having a hard time walking. After asking Cotham to sit still until the ambulance arrived, Cotham became very agitated and began cussing and yelling at the deputies who could then smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Cotham reportedly admitted to deputies that he had been drinking earlier. While at the hospital emergency room, Cotham again became uncooperative and belligerent with the hospital staff.

Cotham was released to a family member and was issued a citation for charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI), DWI refusal, expired driver’s license and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
