Man Beaten At His Home

On January 31 at approximately 10:00 pm, a Drew County Sheriff Department received a report that a man had been severly beaten at a residence located at 138 Tara Grove in Monticello. The victim stated to deputies that Mark Hallman, 23 of Monticello, and John Henry Miller, 47 of Monticello, came into his yard at Tara Grove and began fighting him. Hallman allegedly had a tire tool and was hitting the victim with it. Hallman and Miller were asked repeatedly to stop hitting the man but they refused.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Drew Memorial Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries to his head, facial, back, and chest. One of the injuries to his head required 40 stitches. Mark Hallman was arrested by the Drew County Sheriff's Department on February 1st at the probation office in Monticello. He was taken to the Drew County Detention facility where he was charged with 1st degree battery. He was taken for a first appearance and was given a bond of $4000. He posted his bond and was release on February 1.
