12/26/2011

On December 24 at approximately 10:30 pm, a Drew County Sheriff Deputy was notified by dispatch that there were three people at the Monticello Police Department who stated that they had been robbed at gunpoint.  The victims told the deputy that they had been riding around on a dirt road off of Old Troy Road in Monticello and got worried that they might get stuck due to muddy road conditions. When they attempted to turn the vehicle around, the victims stated that two men came running out of the woods with a gun screaming at the victims. One of the robbers allegedly had a mask on and the other had on a CIA hat. Two of the victims were pulled out of the vehicle; the third victim who is confined to a wheelchair was not. The robbers allegedly took cash, cell phones and a backpack that contained medication that belong to one of the victims.

This incident is still under investigation by the Drew County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Mark Gober asks that if any citizen has any information about this incident, they are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 367-6211.
